Leaf collection begins in early November and usually ends in early December. The exact dates of leaf collection will appear in the Southwest Times along with a map showing the areas to be collected around mid-October. There are a few requests, that if followed, will make collection more efficient and will insure that piles of leaves are not left uncollected for days.
Do Not Rake Leaves Until After Halloween This will remove the temptation for individuals to re-scatter the leaves or worse, set fire to them.
Do Not Put Leaves In Bags Our leaf collection equipment will not handle plastic bags and leaves in bags are left for collection by the Public Service Authority or disposal by the property owner.
Do Not Rake Leaves To An Alley For Collection We cannot go into alleys with our equipment without a high risk of property damage or personal injury to our employees.
Do Not Mix Trash Or Limbs With Leaves These items, when fed into our leaf vacuum are propelled at a high rate of speed and could injure bystanders. All items other than leaves will be separated and left uncollected. If a significant amount of items are mixed in the entire pile of leaves, they will be left for disposal by the property owner.
Leaves Must Be Raked Into A Pile At The Edge Of The Sidewalk Or Street. Residents are asked to please comply with this request. Each year there are individuals that rake leaves blocking sidewalks and sometimes even streets. This causes traffic problems and with school kids using our sidewalks places them out into traffic trying to walk around portions of sidewalks blocked by leaves.
Have Your Leaves Raked Prior To Monday Of The Week We Are Scheduled To Pick Up In Your Area. Invariably some residents do not rake their leaves until our equipment is at their neighbor's house. It takes an average of around 15 minutes to collect leaves at a residence so if you wait until we are working your street to begin raking leaves, we will be completely out of the area and collection of those leaves will have to wait until after December 8th. We drive each section of town ahead of the leaf collection vehicles to insure that all leaves are collected so we also know which residents have not raked their leaves.
