The emergency service agencies of Pulaski County are asking that all residents make sure their house numbers are visible from the street or roadway. When emergency units respond valuable time can be wasted trying to find your house number. This delay could mean the difference between life and death. Visible house numbers are vital to all of our emergency responders including EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement.
Pulaski County has an ordinance to guide homeowners in the proper display of house numbers. All structures shall display the address in the following manner:
1. ½’ tall numbers/letters on your mail box
2. 3” tall numbers/letters if you don’t have a mail box and the structure is less than 75’ from roadway
3. 3” tall numbers/letters on a post at the road if you don’t have a mail box and the structure is more than 75’ from the road
The Uniform Statewide Building Code also requires that addresses be display so they can be read from the road. The proper display of house addresses is very important in the more rural areas especially in areas subject to wildland fires. These areas are usually more remote and response is longer so being able to find an address is vital. This information is presented in cooperation with the Pulaski County Wildfire Risk Mitigation Committee and the Pulaski Fire Marshal’s Office.
