“TOWN MOVES FORWARD ON DEMOLITION OF CONDEMNED STRUCTURES”
The Town of Pulaski is moving closer to clearing the condemned structures from Town. This past week six condemned structures were demolished by a private contractor hired by the Town. Of the six four had burned several years ago and one had fallen down and the last one has been abandoned for several years. “It takes a long time to get to this point,” said Pulaski Fire Marshal Chip Hutchinson, “We still have 30 structures on the list of condemned structures in Town.” These condemned structures are not concentrated in one area but are scattered out all over town. Some have been abandoned or the owner has died leaving the property to children who live in other states or even overseas. This makes getting notification of the condemnation to the owners extremely difficult and sometimes impossible.
“The next list of condemned structures will be given to Town Manager John Hawley,” said Pulaski Building Official Tom Compton, “and he will present it to the Town Council for approval.” “When approved they will go out for bid,” Compton said, “then we will take these down.” The property owners are billed for the cost of demolition and if not paid the Town will place a lien on the property.
The properties demolished this round are located on Highland Terrace, Garner Avenue, Martin Avenue, Short Street, Crestline Drive and Spring Street.
