Search for Mariner gnome underway
PULASKI _ The Pulaski Mariners have announced a joint marketing effort with downtown businesses in Pulaski to promote both the minor league baseball team’s upcoming season and shopping along “Main Street.”
Beginning Monday, May 12, the Pulaski Mariner gnome will be hiding in local businesses in Pulaski. If shoppers spot him and bring it to the attention of the shop owner, they will receive two free tickets to an upcoming Mariner game.
The gnome will move every three to four days to another business, and have more tickets waiting as he is found.
Marty Gordon, the director of marketing and baseball operations, says this effort is two-fold. “We hope we can jumpstart interest in our team and create a new one for shopping the little stores in and around Main Street. Small businesses are the backbone of all the communities in southwest Virginia, and this is just a way we say thank you to them and many others for remaining in business in the midst of the much larger box stores.”
”So, go out and find the Mariner gnome and win some tickets for the upcoming season.”

The Mariners open the 2008 season at home on June 20. Season tickets are currently on sale by calling the ticket office at 540-980-1070.
