Vehicle Mechanic

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for a Vehicle Mechanic. This full-time, non-exempt position performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining motor vehicles and equipment in good and safe working order.  This includes, but is not limited to, the preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all town vehicles and equipment ranging from police patrol units to heavy equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned, under the limited supervision of the Superintendent

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience including at least 2 years in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles and diesel engine repair, heavy equipment repair, automotive heating/cooling and wiring experience, small engine repair, VA State Inspector, or equivalent combination of education and experience

The salary for the Vehicle Mechanic begins at $35,604. PLANNER

The Town of Pulaski is accepting applications for the position of Planner in the Community Development Department. The successful applicant for this non-exempt, full time position will perform daily work to support zoning, planning, permitting, GIS, and code/property maintenance compliance processes. The Planner works closely with the public on a regular basis to provide customer service on all planning and zoning related inquires and will be required to work some evenings for public meetings. This position will serve under the direct supervision of the Economic Development and Planning Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides information and interpretation of zoning and subdivision matters to the public, builders, architects, and other interested parties.
  • Writes or assists in writing a variety of ordinances, staff reports, correspondence, applications, and legal documents.
  • Responds to general planning and zoning related inquiries from the public.
  • Provides and records information regarding permitting and enforcement of zoning, subdivision, environmental protection, community nuisances, and other land use issues.
  • Assists in the review process for site plans and subdivision plans. - Reviews commercial, industrial, and residential building permits to ensure compliance with zoning and subdivision requirements.
  • Reviews business license applications to ensure compliance with zoning requirements.
  • Assists in reviewing zoning amendment, special exception, rezoning, conditional zoning, variance, and zoning appeal applications.
  • Reviews sign permit applications.
  • Investigates zoning violations.
  • Maintains filing records for zoning related documents including minutes, agendas, and resolutions for Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Architectural Review Board.
  • Reviews Certificate of Appropriateness applications for the Architectural Review Board and understand historic preservation strategies outlined in the 2020 Commercial Historic District Guidelines.
  • Maintains and ensures the accuracy of the Town's GIS data, including zoning and land use information.
  • Assists with grant applications and administration efforts.
  • Attends meetings and training seminars (some of which may be held after normal working hours)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or related field.
  • Experience in planning, code enforcement, and/or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices of planning, zoning, and community development.
  • Ability to work effectively with developers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to present concise oral and written reports.


The salary for this position begins at $42,845. The Town of Pulaski participates in the Virginia Retirement System, and provides an excellent benefits package. Engineering Department

Director of Public Works / Town Engineer

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for a Director of Public Works / Town Engineer. This is an exempt, full-time position with benefits including paid employee health, dental, vision and life insurance, accrued paid time off for personal and vacation time, accrued sick leave, paid days off for state holidays, and participation in the VRS Retirement plan.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing the Town with civil engineering services, along with Departmental supervision of Engineering, Water Filtration Plant, Public Works (water/sewer operations, property maintenance, and streets), and the Building Official. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, and along with relevant experience must have good math skills and strong working knowledge of surveying. Work is performed under the general direction of the Town Manager.

Water Treatment Plant Operator (Licensed)

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for a licensed Water Treatment Operator. The Licensed Operator performs all activities related to the operation and maintenance of equipment at the water treatment plant. This includes, but is not limited to, the operation and troubleshooting of all water treatment equipment, determining and adjusting water treatment chemical levels, and sampling and testing water conditions. The Licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator must already possess a Class I, II, or III certification by the State Board for Waterworks Operators, and must also possess basic math skills and general mechanical knowledge while being skilled in detecting defects in equipment and the treatment process as a whole, as well as a Virginia driver’s license.

Public Works Department

General Superintendent of Utilities

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for a General Superintendent of Utilities. This is a full-time position with benefits including paid employee health insurance, life insurance, Virginia Retirement, vacation, and sick leave. This is a newly created position which will report to the Director of Public Works and will exercise supervision over the water and sewer departments, so the candidate will need to have extensive knowledge and skilled experience in those areas, as well as supervisory experience.

Assistant Superintendent of Sewer

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for an Assistant Superintendent of Sewer. This is a full-time position with benefits including paid employee health insurance, life insurance, Virginia Retirement, vacation, and sick leave.

The successful applicant should be skilled in and possess a working knowledge of sewer repair/maintenance, and will be responsible for performing intermediate administrative work overseeing the Town's sewer crews, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Water/Sewer Superintendent.  Limited supervision is exercised over Crew Leaders, Equipment Operators, and Laborers. These duties are often performed in adverse weather conditions. Maintenance Worker

The Town of Pulaski is seeking applicants for Street, Water and Sewer Laborers. These are full-time positions with benefits including paid employee health insurance, life insurance, Virginia Retirement, vacation, and sick leave.

The successful applicants should be skilled in and possess a working knowledge of street repair/maintenance such as asphalt repair and application, ditching, mowing, trimming, snow removal, or utility repair and maintenance to sewer lines, new service installations and line replacements. These duties are often performed in adverse weather conditions. Applicants for both positions should have experience in dump truck operation, and successful applicants must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license, with the ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license within six months

The Pulaski Police Department, an agency accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, is seeking DCJS Certified Law Enforcement Candidates for current vacancies. Officers are responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances pursuant to the Town, State, and Federal Governments, as well as providing assistance to the public.  Officers are subjected to hazardous and life-threatening situations and must be able to work as a team member and maintain a good relationship with fellow employees. Officers are required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:
·DCJS Certified Law Enforcement Officer
·High School Graduate
·Age of at least 21
·Valid VA driver’s license with a good driving record
·Successful completion of applicant testing

·Reside within 1 hour of the Town of Pulaski limits

Police Officer

The Pulaski Police Department, an agency accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, is seeking candidates to establish an eligibility list for anticipated vacancies during the next six months.  Officers are responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances pursuant to the Town, State and Federal Governments, as well as, providing assistance to the public.  Officers are subjected to hazardous and life threatening situations and must be able to work as a team member and maintain a good relationship with fellow employees. Officers are required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications include graduation from high school, must be twenty-one years of age by the date of graduation from the basic academy and possess a valid Virginia’s driver’s license with a good driving record.  Must successfully complete applicant testing and an extensive background investigation and complete the training standards as required by the Law Enforcement Basic Academy.  The successful candidate must reside within one hour of the town limits.  Additional qualifications and disqualifiers for employment as a Law Enforcement Officer may be obtained with the application form.  Preference may be given to DCJS certified officers.
