Town Manager

The Town of Pulaski, Virginia is seeking our next Town Manager. Known
worldwide for the exceptional workmanship of furniture that bears our name,

This position performs complex executive work, planning, directing and
coordinating the overall operations of the Town; serves as chief administrative
officer of the Town; executes the policies established by the Town Council;
prepares and administers the annual budget; supervises all Town Departments.
The Town Manager assists the Town Council with operations, governance,
planning, organizing and directing planning activities, services, programs and staff
and related work, as apparent or assigned. The Town Manger represents the
governing body and interprets the Council’s actions to the public, the media and
other bodies at the local, state and federal level.

Bachelor’s Degree required, (master’s degree preferred), with course work in
Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or related field;
and 5‐years experience in local government with significant management
responsibilities demonstrated. Town residency required within 12 months of
employment. Valid Virginia Driver’s License. The Town Manager represents the
Town on numerous boards. Anticipated salary hiring range is $100,000 to
$130,000

Building Official

The Town of Pulaski is seeking an individual with at least 5 years’ experience as a licensed professional engineer, architect, building, fire or trade inspector or general contractor or related experience to serve as its next Building Official. 

Certification as a Building Official (ICC certified and recognized by the VDHCD) or ability to receive certification within one year of employment required. Valid Virginias driver’s license.  Salary $47,204 to $75,654.

Planner/Economic Developer

The Town of Pulaski, Virginia is seeking a Planner/Economic Developer. This position is responsible for the Town’s Planning and Economic Development. The individual will assist the Town Manager with special projects, ordinances and items presented to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeal and ARB, as well as serving as the “go to” person for information on community development programs and initiatives. 

Bachelor’s Degree required, (master’s degree preferred), with course work in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or related field; and 5‐years experience in local government with. Valid Virginia Driver’s License. Anticipated salary hiring range is $42,888 to $68,620

Program Director - Pulaski on Main

Pulaski On Main, Inc. is seeking to hire a Program Director. Pulaski On Main serves as the Town
of Pulaski’s primary downtown organization. The Program Director works under supervision of
the Pulaski on Main Board of Directors. This is a part time position requiring 20-35 hours per
week and may require availability on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Follow Virginia Main Street guidelines and implement The Main Street Approach which
    focuses on the Four Points: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.
  • Develop downtown economic development strategies based around historic preservation and utilization of Pulaski’s human and economic resources.
  • Market and promote the development of Main Street businesses and organizations.
  • Create and maintain relationships with persons and groups involved with downtown
    development.
  • Manage administrative aspects of Pulaski on Main including purchasing, record
    keeping, accounting, and grant preparation.
  • Develop and conduct ongoing education and public awareness programs to raise
    awareness of the downtown district’s assets, goals, and objectives.
  • Identify and secure grant opportunities for downtown redevelopment.
  • Assist with business recruitments, retention, and expansion including retail, restaurant,
    tourism, and manufacturing.
  • Continue to learn more about commercial district revitalization and identify
    opportunities as they arise.
  • Act as a Welcome Center and information source for visitors and investors.

This position requires knowledge of economic development, commercial district management,
finance, public relations, business use planning and administration, retailing, and historic
preservation.

Water Treatment Plant Operator 

The Town of Pulaski is seeking an applicant for Water Treatment Operator.  Class 2 or Class 1 waterworks operator license are preferred but other licenses will be considered, including trainee.

Basic math skills and general mechanical knowledge are required. Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders is necessary. Weekend and holiday work may be required. Applicants must possess a valid VA driver’s license.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Crew Leader - Water/Sewer


The Town of Pulaski Department of Public Works is seeking a Crew Leader for the Water & Sewer Division.  Crew Leader is responsible for overseeing the crew and the job site.  Crew Leader must be able to perform laborer duties and operate equipment as well.  Crew Leader must be able to receive both oral and written instruction and complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Equipment Operator

The Town of Pulaski Department of Public Works is seeking an Equipment Operator.  Must be experienced in the operation of dump trucks, backhoes, rubber tire loader, track hoe and other heavy equipment used by the Town of Pulaski.

Laborer - Property Maintenance


The Town of Pulaski Department of Public Works is currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of Property Maintenance Laborer.  The Property Maintenance Laborer should be experienced in any levels of electrical repairs, HVAC system repair/maintenance, concrete work, traffic signal and street sign maintenance.

Laborers - Water & Sewer


The Town of Pulaski Department of Public Works is currently seeking qualified Laborers for the Water & Sewer Division.  

Water/Sewer Laborers should be experienced in water/sewer utility line repair/maintenance/installation, repairing water and sewer main and service line breaks, and flushing blocked sewer lines.

This position requires a valid driver's license upon hire.

Police Officer

The Pulaski Police Department, an agency accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, is seeking candidates to establish an eligibility list for anticipated vacancies during the next six months.  Officers are responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances pursuant to the Town, State and Federal Governments, as well as, providing assistance to the public.  Officers are subjected to hazardous and life threatening situations and must be able to work as a team member and maintain a good relationship with fellow employees. Officers are required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications include graduation from high school, must be twenty-one years of age by the date of graduation from the basic academy and possess a valid Virginia’s driver’s license with a good driving record.  Must successfully complete applicant testing and an extensive background investigation and complete the training standards as required by the Law Enforcement Basic Academy.  The successful candidate must reside within forty-five minutes of the town limits.  Additional qualifications and disqualifiers for employment as a Law Enforcement Officer may be obtained with the application form.  Preference may be given to DCJS certified officers.

Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent

The Town of Pulaski Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent.  The VM Superintendent oversees and performs work required to maintain the town’s vehicles and equipment operating in a safe and efficient manner.  This includes but is not limited to the preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all town vehicles and equipment ranging from police patrol units to heavy equipment, mowers and weed eaters.

VM Superintendent should be knowledgeable in diesel engine repair.  At least five years of experience in the automotive field and in diesel engine repair preferred.  VM Superintendent should be able to operate backhoe, loader, dump truck, forklift, diagnostic scan tools, hydraulic floor jack and vehicle lift as well as desk top computer.

VM Superintendent will have a valid CDL issued by the commonwealth of Virginia upon hire and must obtain CLASS A CDL within 12 month of employment. 

VM Superintendent must also have a valid Virginia State Inspection License upon hire.
