Pulaski YMCA Continues to Excel

YMCA. Four letters that are synonymous with community health and The Village People. But the YMCA is more than just a catchy song and a place to stay healthy; it's also a place where the community can gather to celebrate with each other. That model is no different at the YMCA in Pulaski.

A while back I made a trip to our Y to make a Facebook post to promote the organization in a general sense. Since that trip, I've learned that the Y actually has a bevy of activities that deserve to have the spotlight shown on each of them. From after-hours activities to special events for members to take advantage of, there's always something going on that you can dive into.

Take the past month for example. Apart from the normal activities, the Y also hosted a Lip Sync Battle and a Push Pull weightlifting competition on Groundhog Day. The Lip Sync Battle in particular was memorable; the Y managed to raise close to $2,000 for their programs, while giving the community an amazing event to come out and enjoy. When you factor that in with their activity schedule that renews daily, there's so much going on. Spin bike, yoga, Zumba and swim classes are just some of the activities that you can expect if you decide to get a membership with them.

Pretty soon, the Y will be hosting one of the year's most anticipated events, the Pulaski Duck Race. The Y will release 5,000 ducks into, with the top three duck owners walking away with some amazing prizes. You can look forward to that on April 27th, so if you want to adopt a duck in the race you still have plenty of time to.

The Y also does a lot for our children. This coming Wednesday, they will be hosting an event where local leaders and trailblazers will be reading to the kids, and help to show them why reading and education are key to a child's successful future. They even offer a preschool for younger kids, as well as an after school service for children up to grade 8.

YMCA is a huge part of communities all across America and all across the world. We're so happy that our local Y is dedicated to our community's Improvement, and we're looking forward to all they have in store for us in the future, both near and far.
