Town Plans for Future Growth

The town has recently purchased 155 acres of undeveloped land between Memorial Drive and Pepper's Ferry Road, that has been vacant for decades, for future development. As one of the largest undeveloped tracts of land within the town limits, the town has had interest in the property for several years, given its location and topography. and inquiries as to its intended use and/or availability were made. When it was put on the market in November, the council made an offer for its purchase which was accepted and the transaction was completed in December.

A request for proposals for professional planning services will be issued over the next month to produce a master plan for the acreage, which, when completed and approved by council, will guide its future development, insuring that the town's long-term goals for both residential and commercial development are realized. It is anticipated that this process may take 12-18 months.

The purchase for $1.2 million was made possible through the growth of the town's general fund undesignated fund balance over the last several years so no debt was issued.

It is anticipated that the master plan, when complete, will attract developers to invest in the property, thereby increasing the town's tax base with new residences, businesses and jobs. The council is thrilled to have this opportunity to invest in the town's future.
